For a number of wide-ranging reasons, reading comprehension is a challenge for many UTEP students. In collaboration with Dr. Beth Brunk-Chavez, Steven Varela, Nancy Shafter, and Terri Storey-Gore, ISS is in the process of developing a series of online learning modules for faculty that will provide them with simple and effective strategies that can be implemented in course assignments. The modules are designed to improve learning and performance by helping students with reading comprehension on a deeper level. This project was funded by a professional development grant awarded to UTEP by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) in 2009.
